Christmas can be a magical time of year for many in our apartments in Lynchburg, VA. But for some it can also be a very lonely time. It's especially lonely for some seniors.
That's why Home Instead wants you to be Santa to a Senior. It's like the Angel Tree. The program gives gifts to people who wouldn't otherwise receive anything this Christmas.
Thursday volunteers delivered presents to seniors living at Clear Brook Apartments in Lynchburg. Their reaction alone shows you just how big an impact a small gesture can make.
Be a Santa to a Senior reaches more than 1,200 seniors across the Lynchburg area.
Many seniors in the Lynchburg community don't have anyone who's going to give them a Christmas present.
“They can't afford basic needs. Sometimes they're having to choose between paying the utility bill, and paying for their prescription medications," said Betsy Head, Franchise Owner of Home Instead Senior Care.
Volunteers and Home Instead put money, time and effort into ensuring some of those seniors in need, have a merry Christmas.
“It's just so rewarding to see their faces and them be so excited and happy to receive just a few gifts".
Some seniors have been receiving presents through the program for years. And as the countless thank you notes to Home Instead say, it's the thought behind the gift that really counts.
“Many of those notes say, 'this was the only gift I got this Christmas, I so appreciate that you remembered me during this time of year".
They still have about 100 seniors around Lynchburg that have not been adopted, and the deadline is today, Monday the 15th. If you'd like to help, click HERE to sign up and be a Santa to a senior.
