Choosing an Off Campus Apartment

Choosing an Off Campus Apartment

Joseph Coupal - Tuesday, May 29, 2018

Walden Pond Apartments, Lynchburg, VAAlong with picking a major, one of the most important decisions you’ll make in your college career is where you’ll live. If you’re wondering how to choose college housing, following a short list of dos and don’ts will help you pick a place that meets your needs and feels like home.

How to Choose College Housing

Do: Look at Amenities

The amenities offered by an apartment are among the most important things to consider when figuring out how to choose college housing. While you might not need some amenities, having them can make living in an apartment a lot more fun. Make a list of things you’d like to have in an apartment or on the grounds of the apartment and keep that list in mind when you’re out looking at places.

Do: Consider the Location

The location of your housing is pretty important. If you have to go to class five days a week, and plan on socializing or studying on campus, at least to some degree, finding a spot that is near your school is critical. How far away your apartment should be depends on how you plan on commuting to school. If you’re going to bike, it helps to find a place that’s about a mile or so away. If you have a car, you can live a bit further away from school, but not too far, as you don’t want to have to wrestle with a lot of traffic as you go to and from class.

Do: Consider Your Personal Needs

One particularly essential tip when it comes to how to choose college housing is to think of your personal needs. If you have a pet, and want to bring that pet with you, you’ll need a place that’s pet-friendly. If you need furniture, you’ll want to find an apartment that offers furnished options, too.

Don’t: Follow the Crowd

In college, it’s easy to get swept up in a crowd or to go along with what other students want, even if they don’t line up with what you need. While it’s understandable that you’ll want to be flexible and try to find a place that meets everyone’s needs, don’t ignore your own needs in an attempt to please someone else. If a potential roommate wants to live somewhere that doesn’t appeal to you, it might be easiest to part ways and find someone else to live with.

Don’t: Feel Shy About Asking Questions

One of the best things to learn when learning how to choose college housing is to always ask questions. Go ahead and ask the landlord or leasing agent plenty of questions about the property, about your lease, and about what it’s like to live there. You want to know as much as you can about what you’ll need to pay for and what you’re responsible for before you make a decision about housing.

Apartment Decorating on a Budget

Apartment Decorating on a Budget

Joseph Coupal - Monday, May 21, 2018

Walden Pond Apartments, Lynchburg, VAAre you looking to reinvigorate your apartment in Lynchburg, VA for the sunnier and warmer weather? Or maybe you just want to change it up a bit. Below are a few ideas, and you don't even have to overspend.

Repaint old furniture: Instead of throwing away old wood furniture, paint it. Even different but stylish dining chairs look great when you paint them the same color.

Add plants: Indoor plants require care to stay beautiful but they make great décor on a budget. If you don’t have a green thumb, there are plants that don’t take too much effort. Talk to the sales person about the plants before you buy them.

Use photos for art: If you have an eye for photography, or just some great photos, print and frame some yourself. Hang them a few inches apart to create the illusion of large, expensive artwork.

Use a mirror: An oversized mirror reflects light into the room, which makes it look larger. Or use several smaller mirrors together.

Change your curtains: This is a great way to dress up a space.

Add lighting: Add soft lighting with table and standing lamps.

Throw in some pillows: Liven up your furniture with a few throw pillows. Pillows are easy to rotate for all seasons.

You don’t need a lot of money in order to give your apartment a seasonal, a personalized look. Be creative.

Enjoy the City or Natural Beauty in Lynchburg, VA

Enjoy the City or Natural Beauty in Lynchburg, VA

Joseph Coupal - Monday, May 14, 2018

Walden Pond Apartments, Lynchburg, VALiving in an apartment in Lynchburg, VA is wonderful. The city has so much to see and do while still keeping that small-town feel. But, minutes outside the city is natural beauty and gorgeous escapes you can enjoy anytime. There is natural, beautiful countryside that surrounds our city which makes Lynchburg a wonderful place to live. With so much to do, there is no better place in Virginia to live. Now that summer is right around the corner, we thought we'd share two gorgeous spots where you can cool off.

Tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a watering hole called Panther Fall. If you are interested in cliff diving, or if you just want to enjoy watching your friends do it, this is the place to go. Panther Falls has a series of waterfalls and high rocks where you can jump off of into the cold water. During the summer, it is a perfect place to enjoy time with friends and to cool off while taking in the striking scenery.

If you don’t want to jump off the cliff, then you can enjoy the calmer waters further down from the waterfall where you can enjoy a relaxing swim or picnic.

Another wonderful watering home is Ivy Lake. Enjoy the stunning Virginia countryside with mountains and hills that surround this lake. Swim, canoe, fish or just relax on Ivy Lake. There is even a concrete boat ramp leading into the water.
