Amazement Square's Fall Festival, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Amazement Square Children's Museum, 27 Ninth St. Features pumpkin decorating, giant leaf pile, candy apple bar, Fear Factor Challenge and other activities. Appomattox Railroad Festival, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Main Street and downtown Appomattox. Features parade at 9 a.m., rides, demonstrations, live music, food vendors, art show and exhibit, 5K race at Clover Hill Village at 7:30 a.m., street dance and fireworks. Free admission. Event continues on Sunday, Oct. 12.
First Baptist church Monroe Fall Festival, 3 to 6 p.m., First Baptist Church Monroe, 139 Francis Ave., Monroe. Features free hot dogs and chili, a cake walk, children's games, trunk-or-treat, pony rides, petting zoo, dunking booth and a box maze. Free admission.
24th Virginia Wine and Garlic Festival, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Rebec Vineyards, Amherst. Features Virginia wineries, continuous entertainment on five stages, 150-plus food and craft vendors, Garlic Queen and Jr. Queen contests, and the Garlic Cookoff. Event continues on Oct. 12.
Appomattox Railroad Festival, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Appomattox. Sunday events feature firefighters' challenge, children's activities and teddy bear parade. See Oct. 11.

Westminster Canterbury Food and Craft Bazaar, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Hume and Fauber Rooms, third floor, 501 V.E.S. Road. Features door prizes, silent auction and crafts and baked goods handmade by residents. Proceeds benefit the Employee Education Assistance Fund.
